I am a Texan incapable of writing the most refined English, but I would have written :"the shocking betrayal by the Japanese" thereby giving this Texan a clearer understanding of who was doing the betraying.

Also, since I was taught about the chicanery of Andrew Jackson and Sam Houston, I would alter the Alamo interpretation just a tad. The whole piece and the comments pass the test. I enjoyed them all.
